Why Online Reviews Matter More Than Your Website.

← Back to Blog

Practices spend months perfecting a website and almost no time on reviews, but patients usually do it in the opposite order: they find the practice on Google, read the reviews first, and only click through to the website once they've already decided you're worth considering. If the reviews don't hold up, the website never gets the chance to.

Reviews Are the First Filter, Not the Last Step

By the time someone lands on your homepage, they've typically already checked your star rating and skimmed a few recent comments. A polished site can't undo a hesitation that was created before the click. That's why review quality and recency function as a filter upstream of everything else you've built.

Recency Reads as "Still Good"

A 4.8-star rating built entirely from reviews two years old reads differently than the same rating with fresh reviews every month. People assume a practice that isn't collecting recent feedback might not be the same practice it was when those older reviews were written. Steady review flow signals the experience holds up today, not just historically.

Responses Matter As Much As Ratings

How — and whether — a practice responds to reviews, especially the critical ones, often matters more to a prospective patient than the rating itself. A thoughtful, professional response to a negative review can do more for trust than ten unanswered five-star reviews sitting next to it.

Your Website's Real Job Is Confirmation

Once reviews have done their job and earned the click, the website's role is simpler than it feels: confirm what the reviews already promised, make the service offerings clear, and get the person to a booking link without friction. A great website still matters — it just isn't doing the convincing on its own.

If your practice has a strong website and a quiet review profile, the fix usually isn't a redesign — it's a system for asking happy patients to leave a review, consistently, and a process for responding to the ones that come in.
